While re-sorting my last semester's books and stuff a couple of weeks ago, I stumbled upon my Semiconductor Devices Report entitled The Infrared LED. I don't know since when I'm interested with the infrared stuff. Then since I had nothing to do that day, I googled more about the infrared, which lead me to something more interesting - The green laser.

The green laser is generated with a high-power (typically 100-300 mW) infrared AlGaAs (Aluminum Gallium Arsenide) laser diode operating at 808 nm and through some complex processes which have complex spelling that I didn't want to bother typing it here and another usage of infrared filter near the end of the process.
So I bought a green laser pointer from eBay. The cheapest one so that I don't mind if it's not the best laser pointer. It turned out I'm quite satisfied with the price I paid. Cheap and nasty.
The green laser is way brighter than the normal red laser plus you can actually see the beam compared to the red laser. So if anyone wants to buy the laser pointer then go for the green laser. There are guides on how to pot mod the laser pointer. Pot mod is the term given for modifying the potentiometer aka variable resistor aka perintang boleh laras, to give more output power. Or in non-electrical term, to make the laser be able to burn things up.
The last picture just before I messed up the diode and decided to throw
everything into the bin. That was about 5 hours after it arrived.
And I decided to pot mod it. After opening up the tip, it turned up missing something that makes the pulling of the laser diode easier. I tried loosening up the circuit and diode then suddenly the diode broke up. Damn you China-made cheap laser pointer.
The green laser pointers sold on e-Bay are 5mW and below since the US prohibit it's citizens to buy lasers with larger output power. Fortunately, there are sellers from Hong Kong and China.
I'm saving for the 30mW or the 50mW green laser pointer which is significantly expensive to kill of the geckos and the monkeys in my neighborhood. Probably I'm going to use it to burn off the balls of the male cats that love to pee anywhere they want.
More on the green laser pointer.

And yes, it is fun and you will appreciate it more if you understand how it works. Now looking for another cheap replacement for my presentation.

kalo saya nak burn rambut org boleh ka guna laser ijo ni?? :P
buleh. carik yang 100mW punya. Kasi buta pun buleh.
saya nak satu untuk jadi kurus..bole?
Bole, aritu saya ada cuba kat sorang member, pastu dia meninggal. Sekarang agen dia kena pulangkan balik tiket konsert dia kat 50 tempat balik.
